Result - U16B Football Championship
Round 4
Cratloe 3-6
Banner Ennis 5-7
In one of the few games to avoid weather cancellation our u16 footballers overcame a strong challenge away to Cratloe. Playing into the breeze in the first half the Ennis lads worked 3 goals to keep the score to 4 points starting the 2nd half. A Bryan Gannon penalty after Oisin McMahon was pulled back by the Cratloe goalie was added to a trademark solo effort goal from Captain Sultan Akinwale.
The Ennis lads worked the ball very well in the first half half but snatched at many of the chances presented. With Bryan Gannon moving back to the help the full back deal with the real threat from the inside forwards Banner got on top.
In the second period Banner showed real maturity in defending throughout the pitch but in particular in limiting the opposition to long range efforts.
With Patrick Sholarin and Johnson Munumkum tracking back to help the defence a solid base was in place and Conor Dennehy punished the Cratloe lads with an exhibition of running and free taking. Cian Cullinan capped off another stellar performance with a lovely score in the final quarter and with the momentum with the Ennis lads Cratloe lost players as a result of fouling as they struggled to cope with the penetrating attacks.
With 2 wins after Round 4 the Ennis lads are still in the running for a qualification spot but can’t afford to slip up. Next up is at home to Clooney-Quin next Saturday at 12.
