U16B Football Championship
Round 1
Banner 7-6
Doonbeg 1-10
At Lee’s rd
Banner u16s had a solid win over Doonbeg at Lee’s rd today.
Recent meetings of these teams have been hard fought and spoils have gone both ways so it was always going to be a tough encounter.
Banner spurned a good goal opportunity in the first move of the match and failed to take a number of good early point scoring opportunities but got off the mark when Oisin McMahon fisted home a great team goal.
Banner dominated the middle of the pitch and were solid in defence. With Doonbegs marquee players limited to some excellent long range points to keep them in the game. Banner took their goal opportunities well with some clinical finishing by the inside forwards.
Particularly noteworthy performances came from u14 county panelists Seán McMahon & Mufanna Flynn with both players both making huge impacts.
Captain Sultan Akinwale led by example breaking up attack after attack and setting up Banner scores. The half back line including the Cloghleigh contingent of Patrick Sholarin and Bryan Gannon and Cian Cullinan played excellently as did the full back line.
Next up is an away fixture to St Joseph’s In Milltown Malbay next Saturday.
