U16B Football Championship

Round 2

St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay 2-9

Banner Ennis 2-3

Our u16s left Miltown Malbay after a 6 point loss today after a battling game of football in stormy conditions.

Playing into the gale force wind in the first half the Ennis lads defended staunchly but conceded a late goal to trail 1-8 to 1-1 leaving a big mountain to climb in the 2nd half.

A cool Justin McGrath finish for goal followed by a clever quick free by Conor Dennehy allowed Matthew McGratb finish a nest left footed point.

The Banner never got enough momentum in the 2nd period and much credit must go to the west Clare team who worked the hall well into the breeze and showed excellent support play in the conditions to sneak a breakaway goal after absorbing a lot of Ennis pressure. Several good saves from Sean McMahon and a superb goal-line stop by Johnson Munumkum kept the scores tight until a rebound goal by the west Clare lads.

An excellent solo effort for goal wasn’t enough for the Ennis lads to press close to reversing the result and they head back with a few lessons learned but showed good fighting spirit in the 2nd of 7 matches in this competition.

So it’s.one win & one loss and we host Wolfe Tones in Ennis next weekend in Round 3. Venue to be confirmed.
