Banner 2-12
Tulla 0-14
Our Junior hurlers had an excellent win in the quarter final of the Junior B Hurling Championship last evening. On a beautiful evening for hurling the Banner Ennis lads ran out 4 point winners at the Clooney Quin venue. The Banner side got off to a lively start and had a very early goal expertly finished to the net by full forward Philly Mac. Jonny Martin tacked on 2 frees and a fine score from midfielder Danny O’Halloran had the Banner 1-03 to 0-03 in front after the first quarter. Milo Keane was winning excellent ball around the centre of the field and with the spine of the Banner team contain to win their own areas, this lead to further scores on the run in to half time with Jonny Martin finishing a well worked team goal and other scores included one from lively minor corner forward Daniel Daly. Indeed on the night of the 17 players used, this included 4 minor players, Andala Flynn, Ian Molloy, Daniel Daly and second half substitute Davy Keenan. By half time the score was 2-07 to 0-06 points in favour of the Banner. To their credit though the Tulla side fought a great battle and they pulled the deficit back to 3 points on one occasion in the second half. However, key scores from John Collins and Danny O’Halloran saw the Ennis side close out the victory despite a few nervous moments in the closing stages. Hard luck to Tulla who played some excellent hurling on the night. In defence Colm Duffy was rock solid throughout and James Keane was excellent in goals under some hairy dropping balls. Cian Rynne was his usual dominant self at centre back. Milo Keane, Sean Collins, James Coakley and Danny O’Halloran all made key plays at different stages.
