What a week it was for 6 of our Under 17 players who were part of inter-county panels in the Clare Minor Hurling and Football championship action and the Celtic Challenge u17 Hurling competition.

On Sunday last Shane Meehan played a key role for the Clare Minor hurling team who secured an away victory over Waterford in Walsh Park in Waterford. Niall Walsh was part of the extended Clare panel on the day.

On Wednesday night the Clare Saffrons played the Tipperary Blues side in Ogonnelloe in the Celtic Challenge Competition. The Clare side had 3 Banner Club starters in central positions. Conor MacMahon lined out at full back and had a fine game, Niall Walsh lined out at Centre Back and starred for the Clare side. After the game Niall was awarded the 'Best and Fairest' award as Clare's standout player on the night. Tom O'Connell started at Full Forward and contributed 2 points from play, an excellent all round representation from our 3 lads and congrats to Niall on his award. Niall also won a Best and Fairest award after a Celtic Challenge game in 2018. the Tipperary side were victorious on the night defeating the Clare side on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-22.

While that was happening in East Clare the Clare minor Footballers were facing Cork in the Munster Minor Football Championship Phase 2 Competition in Cusack Park. The Clare side were confident having won the Phase 1 part of the competition the previous week when defeating Tipperary in the final, captained by our own dual star Shane Meehan. On Wednesday night Shane again captained the Clare team from full forward while Thomas Meenaghan also was impressive when introduced as a second half substitute. Eoin Walsh was part of the Clare substitutes on the night having seen game time in a few different nights during the Phase 1 part of the competition. Unfortunately Cork were victorious in this game on Wednesday by a margin of 4 points. Clare now face Kerry next week still chasing the opportunity of reaching the Munster final.

Even though not all the results went Clare's way, what a fantastic representation from our club in 1 age group across all these intercounty teams. Well done to the 6 lads for representing the club so well.
